Ungrateful Creatures

Are people generally grateful or ungrateful? If you asked me, the answer to that question is pretty obvious. We are generally ungrateful creatures.

This may sound cliche but people really don't know how precious things are until it is taken away from them. Now I say this is applicable to almost every human being, even myself. We only regret after it's gone.

Besides that, people are also not grateful of the things around them. We always expect more. Everyone wants the best and even with the best, we're still not satisfied. You might be upset if you didn't get the latest smart phone in the market for your birthday but some kid around the world is happy if he even got a cheap second hand phone for his birthday. A phone's function is to be able to call anyway.

So what if you got that smart phone and you're, for once, happy with it? The satisfaction is not going to last long. Even some rich kids change phones like they change clothes. This makes me ask myself, "Are all rich kids the ungrateful ones?"

In my opinion, not really. Even if you're not rich, there has to be some things you're just not satisfied with. You're poor and you're always complaining that no matter how hard to work, you're never gonna strike it rich. Let's be honest, everyone wants to live the high life. Be grateful you even have a house to live in. Think of all the homeless people in less developed countries or those that live in wooden houses they had to build themselves.

And I'm not saying that you should be happy that there's someone out there having it way worse than you. I'm trying to say that while you're complaining about all the retarded things like not having the coolest phone/clothes and whatever you teenagers go crazy about, there is someone who wished that he had 1/3 of what you have. Even with that 1/3, he'd be contented.

So I guess, maybe it's the developed countries that always take things for granted. I mean we do lead a more fortunate life than those in less developed countries. Well I'm just being generic. Maybe not all of you are like that whiny kid that complains about phones/clothes/food... But I refuse to believe that you have never been ungrateful before. Everyone, and I mean everyone, has something that they take for granted every day.

I know of one. It's a mixture of gases called air. When will you stop breathing in this odourless gas? You'll never know... (okay that was a weird way to say that people take for granted every second of their lives. Oh well).

Oh look at the time, I've obviously talked too much. -.- What a nice post to start April, the month of Chihuahuas (according to my dog calendar). Happy April Fool's Day! Don't you dare get any funny ideas of pranking me. I'll drown your pet fish. :)

So I shall end this post with a quote for you to think about:

"If, then, I were asked for the most important advice I could give, that which I considered to be the most useful to the men of our century, I should simply say: in the name of God, stop a moment, cease your work, look around you." -Leo Tolstoy

Argh

Have you ever heard something so stupid you just want to groan and probably mentally strangle the person? You might also be wondering how is this person even called a human being when humans are supposed to be the smartest species of animals on this planet. I cannot believe how some people can be so goddamn stupid.

I absolutely hate talking to people who make no sense. -.- Stupidity does not appeal to me. I don't know about you but I find it extremely frustrating to talk to people who are dumb. I mean girls might think that acting blur or stupid is cute. Who the hell gave you that idea?! No, it is frustrating.

Sometimes I talk to someone and she acts dumb or blur and I really don't know if she really is that dumb or if she's just pretending.

I'm not trying to say that I'm smart or act like a know-it-all but I'm sure you have come across those people who just frustrate you because their level of stupidity and ignorance is so high you wonder if their brain is like the size of a pea.

Speaking of ignorance. Tell me, how is ignorance a bliss?! Yeah sure knowing the whole truth and then realizing some things are better left unknown, but that is reality. You have to face up to it and not hide like a little coward you are. Psht, ignorance is not bliss. I rather know the truth than to lie to myself that everything is going to be okay. Screw that. The biggest lie you can tell yourself is "Everything's gonna be okay" because it's definitely not going to be okay.

Gang Rapes

So a rise in gang rapes, huh? Or rather, raping itself. One burning question I have: why would people want to commit such a... dumb crime? I see reports like these and I frown, thinking to myself how these people really have nothing better to do. Do they have so much free time that they can just go around and rape a person? Well, I didn't know everyone was so free. I thought everyone was busy earning a living.

Hey, the economy is not so good right now so I don't think people should waste their time committing crimes. Seriously, what awaits them at the end of the road is just jail. You can't run away from the law for long unless you're some genius who found a loophole in a specific law or some foolproof crime. God, some people need to get some education. Okay fine, theft. It's a stupid crime but some people are really desperate, they have no choice. I'm not saying it's right but really, for crimes such as rape? Are people really that desperate?

Just to be frank, rapists tell me three things about themselves. 1) They have a horrible love life. 2) They're weak. 3) Freaking ass poor. No lover, unable to control their lust and no money to pay for a hooker. Can anyone get more pathetic than that?

If you weigh the pros and cons properly, breaking the law is never worth it so why criminals, why do you break the law?

And I think all criminals are cowards. You heard me, cowards. They dare to commit the crime but dare not admit to it. If you're so brave to break the law, bloody own up to it and face the consequence like a man (even if you are a woman).

Some say the real cowards are the law-abiding citizens. They do not dare to commit any crimes etc. but that is not true. They are smart enough to know right from wrong. They know the consequences that await them and it simply isn't worth it.

And thus to quote Albert Einstein, "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."

Idiots. Idiots, everywhere.

P.S. I'm a misanthropist.

Carriages are cooler than flying cars

I realized I prefer the past to the future or present and I mean past as in centuries ago. I love history if you don't already know that. I can go on and bore you on my favourite time periods etc. I find the history of Europe particularly interesting (I don't think I'm the only one).

I enjoy reading the history of the British Monarchs, Native Americans, famous inventors and composers. I am so weird. I'm probably boring everyone on this post of history... Well just to share:

  1. My favourite time periods span from 16th to 19th Century.
  2. I like the Georgian and Victorian era.
  3. I like Queen Victoria.
  4. Classical and Romantic periods are my favourite.
  5. I dislike the Baroque Period.
  6. Beethoven is my favourite composer from the past.
  7. I dislike the 20th Century.
  8. I like the Native American history.
  9. I like to read up on epidemics particularly the bubonic plague aka Black Death. (It's scary)
I'm not the kind of person that would read up biographies of people but there are a few exceptions like Walt Disney and Albert Einstein. The rest I would just read up on their main background. Deaths are normally the ones that capture me the most. The ones with diseases are the most interesting... I'm creeping myself out now. Hahaha!

I also prefer reading books that are set in the Victorian Era than those sci-fi books where people stayed in space because Earth is dead or flying cars etc. Carriages are way cooler than flying cars in my opinion.

I like how people would host balls in the past than those modern parties of today. The past had so much more class than our modern world. But then again the past also had really unreasonable beliefs for example the oh-so-famous 'Sons are better than daughters' and the 'daughters should stay at home and cook while sons go out to work' saying. Those were ridiculous.

Even though I dislike the 20th Century mainly because of the world wars (really not a fan of wars), the 1950s was kinda cool. Can you imagine in Las Vegas where they had singers in bars singing those jazzy music? That was the life...

Teens

Today I'm gonna rant about people my age. I'm not saying all of you are like that but some. Well, most.

Have you seen the young adult shelves at bookstores? They are filled with dark covered books with mysterious titles and a creepy girl or guy on it. Erm...

Sorry but I do not go for books like Twilight, Vampire Academy, Melissa Marr's books etc etc etc. Dude, I don't even read books by John Green. I know, I know. You might be saying I'm missing out a lot but those kind of books are just not for me. My mind will shut down when I open them. However, I have a few exceptions. When I say few, I meant two in my entire collection of books and I have a lot of books. Those two are like less than 2% of my collection. So yeah. And about 90% of my books are for kids aged 12 and below. I'll explain later.

If you know me, I have little or no tolerance for romance (unless you're talking about humorous dramas, TV shows or Disney films). I don't know, I just find myself cringing when I read books like that and I'll end up calling the character an idiot.

So what made me write this post? Well, I was surfing online and I came across an article about teen's choice in books. I read the article and they said something about teens loving books with romantic elements or books they could closely relate to. Basically books about suicide, insecurities, family problems etc. etc. all those problems most teens face.

Maybe it's because I have nothing I can relate to or just my low tolerance of romance but I absolutely dislike those kind of books. I just have a really weird taste in practically everything. I'm like the minority of teens. :(

Anyway, the article also said that if you're planning to write a novel for teens, if you do not have romantic elements in them, then you'd be losing out a very important selling point. Meaning your books won't sell as well as those with romance. Which I think is freaking stupid.

Teenagers and their stupid love addictions. I mean it's already annoying enough to see people tweeting about no one loving them or their break up, frustrations with their boyfriends etc etc. It's pissing me off that teens read way too much romance novels.

Is their love life not interesting? Are those novels a way to satisfy their love life fantasy or something? Face it, that nerd-jock or bad boy fairy tale is not going to come true. Reality is, the jock rarely fall for the nerd. So if you're a nerd and hoping for your drop dead gorgeous bad boy or sporty hunk to come sweep you off your feet etc, please, don't make me laugh.

Anyway, the article had written that publishers are confused and kinda sick of publishing works like that and they too, do not understand why teens love it but they just continue publishing those works because those are the ones that sells like hot cakes.

On instagram, when I see friend's post pictures of the books they're reading, in my head, I'm like, "They read that?" I cannot see how they would find that book interesting to read. No really. I've read the synopsis of it and it did not interest me one bit. Like I said, I am one weird child.

I'm the kind of person that loves to read about traditional fantasy. Not the modern fantasy about vampires, werewolves etc. I love books about warriors, heroes, wars, kingdoms, dragons, epic sword fights, magic, legends, curses, allies etc etc. Those had so much more adventure than the current modern fantasy that ties together with romance.

I find that modern fantasy is like a two-in-one. You may think two-in-one is good but what if I only like 1 element of it? I cannot find a modern fantasy books that does not have romance in them. Whereas there are some traditional fantasy books that do not have romance. Also, even if there were a pinch of it, their action and adventure definitely eats into the romance unlike modern fantasy.

Oh well, different people have different preferences right?

I'm beginning to think I'm really really weird... :/ Sometimes I think there might be something wrong with me. Am I the only one that dislike romance novels or books that most teens read? I don't even read Harry Potter even though it's a fantasy book with magic in them. It's kinda boring to me. Well, the movie was good but I read the first few chapters of the book and I snoozed.

Hunger games was good. Even though the movie was a disappointment. The second book is probably my favourite but the third book was... boring. It disappointed me because I was expecting so much for the final book. I stopped reading halfway because it was that boring.

Well, not all fantasy books are good too. There was one I read which sucks ass. It was so boring. I was already half of the book and there was no action yet. And I thought to myself "Who was the person who approved this manuscript?!" Have you ever read a book that sucks so much you think how were they even allowed to be published in the first place?

Anyway, I just find it really weird how all teen books must have romance in them or they wouldn't sell well. I guess I'll never understand.

I enjoy reading books for children half my age. That's because they have completely no romance (unless it's about some princess but it's not so dramatic/tragic like Twilight etc.) , pure imagination and creativity and the adventure you embark on when you read them is a lot better than those of vampire novels. Also, because I aspire to be a children's author, I like to surround myself with those books instead of the teen ones.

Ten years down the road, I'll be the only 26-year-old who reads children books because I am just that weird. ._. Well, it's not my fault I'm the minority or probably the only person who dislike romance novels. Maybe I'm not even from this planet. :O

Crushed up balls of paper

Have you ever watched those shows where the main character is thinking of an invention/plan whatnot and they write it down on a piece of paper? Then they realize it's not good enough so they crush up the paper into a ball and throw it behind them to the trash bin? And then the clip fast forwards and you see the bin is now filled with a mass of crumpled paper balls?

That is exactly how I'm feeling right now. Except I'm throwing virtual balls of paper. Sigh.

But then again, overtime the inventor would go back to his trash and retrieve something and realize it has been the answer all along? Sadly, I don't see that happening to me any time soon. Oh well.

Today I declare editing day.(╥﹏╥) Tedious little shit. But it's necessary. My mistakes are glaring at me every single day and so I must get rid of them. Alrighty, good day to you. I know it won't be a good day for me and I would most probably get distracted etc and blame myself again tonight. That's how things usually go. For me, at least.

Disney Movie Marathon

Today I went to Wei Ching's house with Geraldine and Stephanie! We went to have lunch at Killiney and then went on our Disney Movie Marathon. Well, we watched 4 films. Brave, Mulan, The Lion King and Hercules. I didn't get to catch Brave when it was out in cinemas last year... And I've never watched Hercules before in my life.

Anyway, while watching Mulan, I realized that the film is kinda short... Hahahaha!

So I would like to rate the movies:

1) The Lion King
I don't know if it's just me but... I feel that this film is one of the best Disney films ever! Like the whole series of Lion King. The sequel, and prequel were pretty good too.

2) Brave
In this movie, there were a lot of cute and funny moments. I was laughing my head off and the ending was kinda touching...

3) Hercules
This film was funny too. I don't know what else to say about it but it was definitely better than Mulan cos Mulan was kinda fast.

4) Mulan
As said above. Hahahah!

But I do know one film that I strongly dislike. Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

Disney is soooo nice. I have a few films in mind to watch now... Shall put these on my list of movies to watch before school starts:

  • The whole Cinderella trilogy
  • Beauty and the Beast
  • Tarzan
  • Aladdin
  • Brother Bear
  • The Lion King 2 and 3
Yep, so that's all for now.
